Chamomile oil will soothe and cool burning skin. The fastest and most effective way to relieve a large area of redness and stinging is to take a lukewarm bath with 5 or 6 drops of Chamomile oil added to the water. This can safely be repeated at intervals of a few hours until the burning sensation has subsided. If it is a child who is burnt, dilute 3-4 drops of chamomile oil in a little almond oil before adding to the bath.

More severe sunburn is best treated with Lavender oil, which is the first choice oil for burns of any kind. Make a solution of Lavender oil in boiled and cooled water ( 12 drops to each tablespoon of water) and dab this on the burnt area if there is no blistering and the skin is not broken. If the skin is blistered, you can apply Lavender oil neat to the blisters.

Essential oil of Bergamot, most other citrus oils, Angelica root and few others make the skin more sensitive to the sun’s rays, so it burns more easily. This effect is known as photosensitization and can cause quite serious sunburns. The photosensitizing effect could last up to 24 hours unless the oil is diluted to less than 2%.

Prevention is better than cure, essential oils do not prevent sunburn, use a commercial preparation with a protection factor appropriate to your skin type and to the climate and conditions in which you will be sunbathing.

Use of all these facilities is for free if your treatment costs are the minimum of R250. Should you wish to utilize the facilities without having a treatment; a Day spa fee of R100 per person will be charged, meals and beverages at an additional cost.

Jacuzzi

The Jacuzzi experience is classified as spa hydro therapy, which means that it is a method of healing through water and an important part of our spa experience. It increases the metabolism, eases tension in muscles and joints and relieves aches and pains. It is very beneficial to use the Jacuzzi before a massage or any other spa treatment, because it warms up your body, creates a sense of well being and helps you relax.

Sauna

Do not think that the sauna is just a hot room. The benefits are countless. Yes, it does increase your body's temperature, but it also increases blood and lymph circulation, as well as your heart rate. It induces perspiration, which deep cleanses and softens the skin in preparation for the spa and help rid the body of impurities. It is important to sauna before a massage or any other spa treatment because it relaxes tired, aching muscles, relieves stress and tension and creates a general feeling of well- being. Additionally it opens up your pores for more complete absorption of aromatic oils during the massage or during a facial treatment.

Swimming Pool

The swimming pool at the spa, is ideal to revive and re-awaken your senses. Relax in the swimming pool to cool down after a hot summer's day or after a Jacuzzi or sauna session. Enjoy the tranquility of nature by lounging in a deck chair by the pool, while waiting for your next spa treatment.

Gym

The gym at our spa is available to all in-house guests.
